Frequently asked questions

Does Las Vegas Immigration Lawyers handle immigration?

Yes, we can help with your application for green cards, visas and citizenship.

What are the requirements for immigrating to the US?

This depends on which country you’re coming from and what process you’re doing. Each has its own specific requirements, but generally you’ll need a passport, green card or visa to enter the US.

What is USCIS?

USCIS, also known as United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. USCIS is a federal agency in the Department of Homeland Security. They’re responsible for all lawful immigration to the US.

How long does it take to get a marriage-based Green Card?

These things take time. We’ve seen it take anywhere from 10-38 months. A lot of it depends on whether you’re married to a US citizen or green card holder and where you live. For the most accurate time frame, we recommend consulting a lawyer.

How can I get a work permit?

It depends on your visa category. If you’re eligible, you’ll need to fill out the application form and paperwork, attach any photos or documentation, pay application fees, and submit it to USCIS for review.

How can I become a US citizen?

At birth or through naturalization, acquisition or derivation.

Naturalization: The way to become a US citizen if you were born outside the US. Learn more about eligibility at USCIS

To be eligible, you’ll need to be 18 or older, and fit into one of these categories:

5 years as a lawful resident

3 years of being married to a US citizen

Qualified for US military service

Naturalization is the most common way for immigrants to get US citizenship. Every year, about 1 million permanent residents apply to become a US citizen.

Acquisition: The way foreign-born children can automatically get citizenship by being born to parents who are US citizens

Derivation: The way children who are born to naturalized citizens can get US citizenship

How should my spouse and I prepare for my Green Card interview?

It’s normal to feel nervous before the interview, but the main objective is to determine that your marriage is authentic. We recommend reviewing the forms you submitted and bringing proof of your combined finances. Be prepared to answer questions about how you met and who does what around the house. If you’re genuinely married, the questions most likely won’t be too difficult. It’s also a good idea to bring a binder full of pictures of you and your families, flight tickets for trips you’ve been on together, and anything else that can help establish your life together.
